Frizz Fighting Castor Oil Hair Serum

by Melissa Chichester

The frizz monster feeds on hair that lacks moisture, which can occur for a number of reasons. Exposure to hot water, overuse of shampoo and other hair care products, excessive brushing, use of hot styling tools, and environmental factors like humidity can all contribute to frizz. Enter castor oil, a vegetable oil extracted from the seeds of the Ricinus communis that’s been used for centuries in haircare, especially in the Caribbean. Combined with all-star smoothing agent aloe vera, this hair serum will fight frizz and lock moisture into hair follicles.

Ingredients

Directions

Pour all ingredients into a glass jar (one with an airtight lid) and whisk until everything is blended.

To apply, repurpose an old makeup brush (a small eyeshadow or eyeliner brush works for this) and dip into the serum. Dab a small amount onto damp hair, especially frizzy areas like the scalp, baby hairs, or split ends. Too much serum will flatten hair instead of adding healthy shine, so it is important to work with a little at a time. Use your fingers to spread the serum into the hair as needed.

Store the remaining hair serum in the jar and store in a cool, dark place for future use.
