About 1 in 8 women and 1 in 1,000 men in the United States will develop invasive breast cancer over the course of their lifetime. The disease has also directly affected several of our associates, as well as their family members and friends. For these reasons, the fight against breast cancer is extremely important to the Puritan’s Pride family.
One of our brave associates, Desiree, was diagnosed with Ductal Carcinoma in April 2016, and underwent a double mastectomy that same month. Four weeks later, she began chemotherapy treatment. Despite having her life turned upside down so quickly, she remained positive and an inspiration to all those around her, constantly making her colleagues laugh by sharing her vibrant, carefree spirit. We are happy to report that she completed her treatments in July 2017. She hopes that sharing her story will help increase awareness of the importance of yearly mammograms and the difference that early detection can make.
To help Desiree’s cause, and the millions of others affected by this disease, we recently held a fundraiser for the American Cancer Society at our Long Island, N.Y. headquarters. Associates purchased baked goods and bid on donated prizes for a great cause. Many associates also joined the local Making Strides Against Breast Cancer walk. Together, these efforts raised over $10,000, which will help the American Cancer Society provide education and support services for those affected by the disease.
