40 Healthy Activities to Do Indoors

by Melissa Chichester

During times when you find yourself spending more time indoors than usual, it is important to maintain health and wellness with activity. That doesn’t just mean exercise; it also means flexing your cognitive muscles to maintain a positive outlook. Staying active indoors also helps to lessen stress and support immune health.

Exercise

Many people prefer to exercise at the gym or outside, but when that isn’t an option, there are plenty of options to get in a workout at home.

Exercise stimulates the production of endorphins that naturally act as mood elevators.

Plus, exercise is essential for heart, cardiovascular, and immune health.

Here is a quick and easy workout you can do in 20 minutes or less:

  • Jog in place for one minute
  • 20 pushups
  • 30 situps
  • 40 squats
  • 20 lunges
  • 20-second plank

The great thing about this workout is that you can customize it to your ability. If you can’t do something, customize it to your athletic level!

Online video sharing is another vast resource for indoor workouts. There are workouts available for seniors, serious athletes, kids, and for all ages and abilities. There are even wheelchair workouts available online. You can find yoga routines, pilates, HIIT workouts, and upper and lower body workouts. And if you think you need fancy equipment, enter “no equipment” in your keyword search phrase.

Mood-boosting activities

Just as it is important to exercise the body, it is also important to exercise the mind. This includes participating in activities that simply improve your mood. This list is by no means exhaustive, but it will give you some ideas on how to flex your mental muscle.
