One Small Thing

One Small Thing

We’ve heard it time and time again, LIFE is about the little things. Too often we fret about actions that are beyond our control, and we become overwhelmed. Thankfully, there are LOTS of simple things that we can do that will allow ourselves some happiness, pleasure, and yes SATISFACTION. By resolving to make just ONE small change, add ONE tiny treat, or enjoy ONE little taste, you’re opening yourself up to truly enjoy life.

Here are four of my personal favorites:

  1. Schedule some “ME” time – When was the last time you took an hour just for YOU? You know… some “ME” time! A stolen hour in a bathtub filled with bubbles, as you sip a glass of wine, standing in front of the mirror trying on all of those crazy new eye-makeup techniques that you’ve been reading about, or even just grabbing a catnap to rejuvenate yourself before hubby & the kids come home can have a powerful impact on how you face the rest of the day.
  2. Power down – When was the last time that you actually read a book, flipped through a magazine, played catch with the dog, or argued whether ketchup or mustard is the “better” condiment for a burger with your husband/wife/boyfriend/girlfriend? I am guilty of sitting in front of my computer screen, television or smartphone for a SIGNIFICANT part of the day. By ACTIVELY deciding to power down for an hour mid-day, or turn-off electronics earlier in the evening you’ll find that you have the time for those projects you’ve been putting off, get to spend time with friends, and yes, even enjoy a sybaritic hour of doing ABSOLUTELY NOTHING!
  3. Take a walk – I think that the reason I have a dog is so that I can get out of the house and into the fresh air every day.  It gives me the opportunity to clear my mind, burn a few calories, forget about “work” and reflect on my day.
  4. Treat yourself – I remember saying that I enjoyed shopping for things for hubby and my son, but I never seemed to buy anything for myself. Once I realized that a little splurge (as long as it’s within your budget) is a great way to say I’M WORTH IT, I found that I looked forward to treating myself. So go ahead and grab that bouquet of tulips at the grocery store, or upgrade to a fancy coffee instead of your “regular.” Treating yourself every now and then is the BEST way to remind yourself that YOU’RE SPECIAL.

I love the items that someone posted above. I turned 50 last month, I was a little bit sad, but now I feel great because I realized that I need to treat myself better then I was; for example, I do Yugo three times a week, I started to buy fancy and expensive clothes, and I cook less but eating out or bringing food that is cooked home for me and my son.
so ladies, treat yourself and be happy. 50s is another great stage of our lives!
