5 Ways to Spring Clean Your Bedroom Closet

5 Ways to Spring Clean Your Messy Bedroom Closet

Are you thinking about ideas on how to spring clean your bedroom closet? As I write this post, I have the windows open and a lovely warm breeze is blowing through the house. After a long, frigid winter, I couldn’t be more thankful for this mild, sunny Spring weather!

So, now that Spring is here, it is time to start thinking about decluttering our homes. When our surroundings are clean and organized, we tend to be more productive and calm in our lives as well.

Start your Spring cleaning off small with the bedroom closet. Below are five ways you can easily clean and organize your bedroom closet. Let’s get started!

Clear Out Unworn Clothing and Shoes to Spring Clean your Bedroom Closet.

Purging clothing and shoes that no longer fit (whether too large or small), are outdated or unworn for longer than a year will make a huge impact on the clutter level of your closet. Donate unwanted pieces to a local charity or make a few bucks by selling in a garage sale! After purging, organize the remaining clothing into categories – pants, tops and so on. Place all remaining shoes in a shoe organizer or into pairs on a shelf.

Organize Accessories.

Organize scarves, ties and belts by using clothes hangers or wall hooks. For jewelry, use hooks and/or a jewelry box to keep all of your necklaces, earrings, bracelets and watches together so you can find them easily. This is also a great time to purge all unwanted accessories to donate or sell, and polish and clean that silver jewelry that needs tending to.

Hang Bags and Purses.

If you are anything like me, you have bags and purses on the floor in a messy pile. Instead, use hooks on the wall to hang your bags in your closet so they are off the floor, organized and easy to access. Again, this is a great opportunity to donate or sell items you no longer need.

Box Up Miscellaneous Items.

After organizing your clothing, shoes, accessories and bags, store any leftover miscellaneous items in pretty or neutral boxes with lids and place on the floor or shelf. Make sure you can easily access the boxes if you need to by not placing them too high.

Add Fragrance.

When your closet is fully organized, clean and beautiful, add a scented sachet, cinnamon sticks or dryer sheet for a light, fresh fragrance. Now, every time you walk into your closet you will be greeted by a wonderful scent!

I did this last year but I need to do it again this year. Maybe I didn’t get rid of enough last year.

I share with my husband. I can keep my side clutter free but he is not as neat and a lot of his mess is suddenly on my side. A divider is not possible..Help may not be possible. is there any solution or would I have a better chance wrestling a porcupine?

Believe me you would have better luck wrestling a porcupine. Men are just impossible. Nothing ever goes into it’s proper place and of course they can’t find what they need so someone must have moved it. Right! I organize my side of the closet by function, then color, ie: work, church, casual, etc. Coats and jackets go on a separate rod. Also, I use a lot of storage boxes for hats, scarves, shoes, etc. Good luck with your endeavor.

    Felicia FS,
I understand…my husband is the same way. But, what I did was to remove my things from the same closet and into another bedroom closet that was no longer being used. Now, I understand everybody may not be able to do this, but it sure made a difference in our situation. Otherwise, I was going behind him trying to keep organized and being frustrated at the same time.

This idea only works if you have a big enough closet to hang things on the wall. Mine is way to small for this and necessarily all 3 sides have rods and are for in-season clothes. Rest are in bins in the garage.

One of the best hangers out there for closet organization is a tie/belt hanger. I use them to organize scarves, belts, and fashion necklaces. That way nothing gets tangled, everything is easy to see, and the hangers can be used on a rod or a hook mounted to the wall.
