Years ago, I cleaned homes for a living. One of my responsibilities as a housekeeper was to provide my own cleaning supplies. I soon learned that it was not only terribly expensive to purchase pre-made cleaning supplies, but most of my clients didn’t enjoy the fumes that came along with them. Heck, I didn’t like them for my own family, either. So, I researched other options: i.e. I looked online and asked my grandma.
From my research, I found that you can make several household cleaners from vinegar, baking soda and water. I was skeptical, I’ll admit. I assumed that simple ingredients like vinegar and water could not possibly have the same potency as bleach or other harsh cleaners, but I was pleasantly proven wrong.
I have put the following cleaners to the test with fabulous results. To use, simply purchase a spray bottle, or reuse one you already have on hand, add your cleaner and you have your very own DIY green household cleaner ready to go. (The toilet cleaner does not need a bottle; just dump your ingredients directly into the bowl and scrub!)
- 1/4 cup baking soda
- 1 quart warm water
- 1/2 cup white vinegar
- 1/2 cup water
- 1/2 cup baking soda
- 8 drops tea tree oil
- 1/2 cup distilled white vinegar
Do you have a DIY cleaner that has worked for you?
