10 Uses for Apple Cider Vinegar


Move over, white vinegar! It’s time to share the spotlight with apple cider vinegar, which is made from crushed apples. From its uses in beauty to the kitchen, it’s easy to see why this versatile ingredient has become a pantry staple. Here are 10 recipes to get started with apple cider vinegar.

Easy Oil-Free Salad Dressing

1 cup apple cider vinegar
2 tablespoons maple syrup
1 minced garlic clove
2 teaspoons ground mustard
Salt and pepper to taste

Mix all ingredients in a glass jar, and let the flavors blend for at least one hour in the refrigerator. Pour over salad greens or fresh veggies, mix, and chow down!

Clarify and Condition Hair Rinse

16-ounces cold water
2 tablespoons apple cider vinegar
2 drops clary sage oil

Mix all ingredients in a plastic bottle. After shampooing and rinsing hair, pour the entire rinse over your scalp, avoiding contact with eyes. Leave in hair for 2-3 minutes, and rinse. For hair shorter than shoulder length, use half of the mixture.

Jazzed Up Ginger Morning Elixir

2 tablespoons apple cider vinegar
1/2 teaspoon fresh grated ginger
1 cup cold or warm water
Dash cayenne pepper
Dash cinnamon

Mix all ingredients well. Store the remainder in the refrigerator in a glass jar or bottle, and shake gently before drinking. Makes two servings.

Soothing Cinnamon and Honey Tea

10-ounces hot water
2 tablespoons lemon juice
1 tablespoon apple cider vinegar
½ tablespoon raw honey
½ teaspoon cinnamon

In a mug, dissolve all ingredients in the hot water. Stir, and enjoy!

Lemon and Green Tea Beauty Tonic

1 cup brewed green tea
4 tablespoons apple cider vinegar
¼ cup fresh lemon juice (about 1 lemon)
3 tablespoons collagen powder
1 tablespoon Manuka honey
Dash cinnamon

In a glass jar, add hot green tea, apple cider vinegar, and Manuka honey. Stir until honey is dissolved. Add collagen, cinnamon, and lemon juice, and stir again. Store in a glass jar in the refrigerator. Pour into shot glass and drink in the morning before breakfast. Makes approximately 5 shots.

Pore Perfecting Facial Toner

1/2 cup apple cider vinegar
1 1/2 cups distilled water
5 drops lavender oil
2 tablespoons witch hazel

Add all ingredients to a dark, glass bottle and shake until mixed. Spritz onto a cotton ball and pat all over face before moisturizing, avoiding the eye area.

Sleek Spruce Wood Cleaner

2 cups water
¼ cup apple cider vinegar
2 tablespoons olive oil

Mix all ingredients in a glass jar until oil has dissolved. Dab onto rag and wipe down wooden surfaces to clean and restore shine.

Mama’s Magic Meat and Veggie Marinade

4 tablespoons apple cider vinegar
1 tablespoon avocado oil
1 tablespoon Herbes de Provence
1 tablespoon maple syrup
¼ cup fresh lemon juice
Salt and pepper to taste

In a small bowl, mix all ingredients and whisk until blended. Pour over meat or vegetables and let marinade overnight, or at least 1 hour before tossing onto the grill.

Skin Smoothing Face Mask                                 

1 teaspoon apple cider vinegar
1 teaspoon baking soda
2 teaspoons Manuka honey

Mix all ingredients and apply to face. Let sit for 15 minutes, and gently remove with a warm washcloth.

Easy Bathroom Busting Grime Grabber

1 cup apple cider vinegar
1 cup water
10 drops essential oil of your choice

Add all ingredients to a large spray bottle and shake until mixed. Spray onto bathroom surfaces including shower walls, mirror, and bathtub. Let sit for five minutes, and wipe down.
